Import a survey from a Word doc

4 minUpdated

Turn an existing Word questionnaire into a native Surveti study with AI import — question types and skip logic carried across, ready to edit and field.

Already have a questionnaire written in Word? You don't need to retype it. AI survey import reads your document, recognizes each question, and rebuilds it as a native Surveti study — mapped to real question types, with skip logic carried across — so you can edit and field it instead of rekeying it.

Importing a Word questionnaire into Surveti

Before you start

Import works from a Word document (.docx), a PDF, or an exported survey from SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics. The cleaner your source, the cleaner the rebuild: give each question its own line and keep answer options listed beneath it, the way you'd read them aloud.

It's metered — and optional

AI import is a metered feature, and it can be switched off entirely for your workspace. If you'd rather build by hand, every question type is available in the builder without it.

Import your document

  1. Open AI survey import

From your dashboard, start a new survey and choose Import with AI instead of a blank build.

  2. Upload your file

Drop in your .docx, PDF, or platform export. Surveti reads the structure of the document, not just the words.

  3. Let AI rebuild the study

AI reconstructs each item as a native Surveti question — single choice, multi-select, grids, open ends — and carries branching logic across so your routing survives the move.

Review and refine

Import gets you a working draft, not a black box. Open the survey in the builder and read it top to bottom before you field it.

The rebuilt survey open in the Surveti builder, ready to review question by question.

Every imported question lands as an editable native question type.

Check three things in particular:

  • Question types — confirm a rating scale came in as a scale, not as plain single choice.
  • Answer options — make sure every option made it across, in the right order.
  • Logic — walk any skip or branching rules in preview to confirm they route the way your original did.

Preview as a respondent

Use the live preview to click through the survey exactly as a respondent will see it — logic, piping, and randomization all run in preview, so what you test is what you field.

Field your survey

Once the draft reads right, you're on the normal path: set your distribution, add incentives if you're sourcing respondents, and launch. Because the study is now native to Surveti, everything downstream — quotas, fraud checks, and reporting — works exactly as it would for a survey you built from scratch.
